2006 Voodoo Aizan 29er SS
After hearing all of the benefits of having 29-inch wheels, I jumped on the bandwagon and built up a 2006 Voodoo Aizan as a singlespeed.
All the hype is true. This thing rolls so much better than my old Surly 1×1. You honestly just roll over bumps and rocks that would usually slow down a 26-inch bike.
I was a bit hesitant about Scandium as well. I thought the ride quality would be poor - but no, it’s actually very forgiving.
At some point (when money allows), I’d like to get this bike under 20 lbs. I haven’t weighed it yet, but it’s probably around 23 lbs right now. The wheels and the fork will be the first things to be replaced. The Bontrager Superstock Disc wheelset almost combines for 2300 grams. The fork weighs in at about 2.4 lbs, only a pound lighter than the frame itself, which supposedly only weighs 3.3 lbs.
More info to come later!
